After learning a very important lesson about not using an older European car as a daily driver, my good friend is looking to sell is '83 320i. This two-owner California car is fully documented and resplendent in Safari Beige with the brown interior. It is described as "fully sorted" and "drives like new" with 103k on the odometer.

The garage is for the Elise and the '74 Corvette (don't ask) so this one has to go. NPOCP at $9000?

That was my thought, but when I mentioned the optimistic pricing he mentioned that he's finding examples in similar condition for upwards of $13k, and that he has all the documentation to attest to his car's originality.

Super CP. Ain't nobody paying anywhere near that much for a 4 cylinder E21. I bought one for $600 last year. Same color, less mileage.

I think its a matter of not wanting to kill it. 103k isn't a lot considering the age, but it is starting to get up there.

lol even for an e21 320is or a 323i docs wouldnt make 9 grand stick for me. It is sure original, except for what should be steel wheels on it, but it wasnt a very great car to begin with. If he is seeing them at 13 great. I wonder if anyone is buying them at that. My bosses b6 Alpina 2.8 cost him 5 even

I learned it a while ago with an '85 Golf I was spending too much money on. Hit a raccoon on my way to work and realized that the raccoon was worth more than the car.

I disagree, though only slightly. I just scanned through Search Tempest and prices are all over the place. $9000 is on the upper end, but I couldn't find anything comparable in terms of condition, mileage and so forth, even on the BMWCCA site or Hemmings. Even if the wheels aren't original, as someone pointed out, they are period correct and worth a good chunk on their own.

CP all day everyday. You can get a well sorted e30 for 9k. The E21 is the red headed step child right now. Thats not saying values arent increasing, becuase they are, as well sorted e30's are becoming more difficult to find. But your friend, nor any of the other delusional folks you say are asking 9-13k will get anything close to that. At those prices, they are in NO DANGER of selling their cars, as is your friend.

This may be worth 4k to the right buyer.
